Postpartum Pelvic Floor Therapy

Postpartum Pelvic Floor Therapy bridges the gap between training and rehab. Dr. Turpin’s program will give you a deeper understanding behind the common postpartum dysfunctions and the best corrective exercises to help.

Dr. Jennifer Turpin is a mom of two, chiropractor, pilates instructor and personal trainer. She is very passionate about empowering women to obtain stronger, healthier bodies without worrying about their pelvic floor, aches or pains. Dr. Turpin has made it her passion to learn as much as she could about pelvic floor health, post partum care, strength training during pregnancy and post partum.

After having two children herself, she noticed how much her body changed, urinary incontinence from returning to exercise too early in postpartum, a small diastasis recti and struggled with a constant low back pain. She then began to notice many of her female patients had similar complaints, no matter how far they were in their postpartum journey.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can occur due to various factors. Symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction include urinary or fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic UTI’s, sexual dysfunction, or difficulty with bowel movements. Another condition that some women struggle with after childbirth that can significantly affect their core and pelvic floor strength is the separation of the abdominal muscles called diastasis recti.

During a pelvic floor consult, Dr. Turpin will perform a detailed history, assess your posture, core strength and overall strength in larger muscle groups that can indirectly affect your pelvic floor function. If she feels the need for an internal pelvic floor assessment, she will refer you to a pelvic floor physiotherapist. You will be provided with a detailed individualized program for your condition, with videos for guidance.

Dr. Turpin also enjoys teaching her 5 week postpartum strength class and 5 week postpartum circuit class to groups of new moms. Many baby groups enjoy the social aspect of class while providing support for each other on the postpartum journey. If you are interested, please reach out to Dr. Turpin privately via email.
